    Meet The Vagabonds

    Dan Meek

    Lead Vocalist

Dan, brings a passion and dynamism to classic hits. Born and bred in Portsmouth, he's been immersed in music from a young age. Inspired by legendary acts like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Blondie, Erasure, The Jam, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, and Kings of Leon, Dan delivers powerful renditions that capture the essence of these iconic artists. We cover hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, right up to today, but Dan's personal favorite era is the 80s. While his main hobby is singing, Dan is also a keen charity runner. His favorite food is Indian, and he loves red wine. He wouldn't be out of place in the kitchen cooking and of course enjoys listening to music. His favorite singers are Amy Winehouse and Teddy Swims.

    Mark Trapani

    Lead Guitar

Mark is the lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the band.He formed the band almost 20 years ago when they were known as Starfish. They soon had a change in personnel and later became The Vagabonds.

Mark loves his football (Pompey of course) and even became a Director of Portsmouth Football Club following taking the club out of Administration.

He retired from being a founding Director of a local Motor Group in 2020 and since then has concentrated on playing guitar and gardening. Mark is married and lives in Southsea, where he listens to anything from classical music to Hendrix.

He started playing guitar (and flute) for a band called Rameses back in the 70’s and later joined a Blues band ‘Recrudescence’. Mark hung up his guitar for a few years to concentrate on building a Business and being a parent but he did a one night stand with some great musicians at Fernham Hall. Mark also joined a 60’s rock n roll band The Fossils in 2005 but split up when one of the band members moved abroad. Mark also made a couple of guest appearance with Danny Raven and The Renegades. Mark’s love for playing made him start up the band Starfish and subsequently the Vagabonds with his friend Dan Meek.

    Rob Vinall

    Drums

Rob got behind a drum kit in 1977 after obtaining a kit from a friend's Mum's catalogue and started an originals band called "Cairo" with some friends which went well and gigged around the Gosport and surrounding area complete with a monthly spot at the famous John Peel Pub. The band parted ways after a couple of years and after a short break I joined up with two guys to become "Apostle," a covers/originals band which gigged mainly in Portsmouth pubs etc. I had a break once Apostle finished but was coaxed out of " retirement" to join "The Vagabonds" and I must be doing something right because this will be my 6th year with them! .

    Bill Foley

    Keyboard

I joined The Vagabonds in April 2021 after having played with another Hampshire band since 2015. My journey with music started when I began playing the piano at the age of 10. Though I took lessons for a couple of years, I now play mostly by ear — "You hum it, and I’ll play it."

I live on the West Sussex/Hampshire borders and work as a manager for a Tier 1 construction company. My path to joining a band was a bit unconventional. Back in 2015, my wife pointed out that we hadn’t spent a bank holiday together in years because I was always off sailing. So, I decided to sell the boat, bought some golf clubs (since my wife loved golf), and joined a local golf course. However, I quickly realized that golf wasn’t for me. I disliked the
game and couldn’t see the appeal. I mentioned my golf frustrations to a friend at work, who knew I found relaxation in playing the piano. He invited me to audition for his band, and the rest is history. Our first gig was on June 30, 2015. My wife still calls this my midlife crisis, but she’s come to accept it.

    Steve Thacker

    Guitar

Asked by The Vagabonds to temporarily help out on guitar in early 2025 and I'm pleased to inform that this turned into a permanent position not long after; Yes, I'm greatly enjoying the camaraderie & fun (& the odd bit of banter :-O ) playing awesome music with these great musicians & yes, they're a really nice bunch of guys as well ;-)

Inspired to play guitar in my early teens by the exciting early rock music of the 60s/70s, my first gigging experiences were with school mates in my hometown of Southport playing classic favourites by Cream, Sabbath, Purple, Zeppelin et al. Since my move down to Portsmouth, I've continued with my passion for music by joining various local pop/dance covers bands including Honey Street, The Billy Caister Showband, Clubland, The Movies, Alphabet, playing & enjoying my role as guitarist, from back in '79 up to now where I'm honoured to be called a Vagabond.

My Guitar gear has certainly changed many times over the past 50'odd years, from my 1st unplayable £7 2nd-hand acoustic, & my 1st new £34 electric (a 15th birthday gift from my Mum: a Les Paul copy from Liverpool's "Frank Hessy's" of Beatles fame; & I've still got it!) to now with my ever expanding music paraphernalia including my horde of 6-stringers (just don't ask how many I now have :-p ) What has not changed is my love & devotion for the guitar, for music & for performing. See you out there :-)
